WORLDS OF FUN OUTING!! Students in grades 9-12 are invited for a day of sliding and riding on August 9. We’ll load on a big yellow bus at 12:00noon and head to Oceans of Fun, and then top the night off with roller coasters at Worlds of Fun!! Bus will be back to Lawrence at 10:00pm. Cost: $40; bring $10 for dinner. Scholarships available; contact Jen with questions. RSVP to Jen by July 30 to go along!!
Back to School BBQ/Swimming Party!! On Aug 22, come to St. John for Mass at 5pm with the youth group, and then join your core team and Fr. John for a barbeque at 6:15pm in the gazebo in the park at 6th and Kentucky. At 7pm, head across the street for a few hours of swimming and fun at the Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center!! Bring your “Youth Code of Conduct and Registration” forms as your permissions slips for Sunday evenings in order to sign up for the new school year!! They can all be found online at www.saint-johns.net, “Youth Ministry” tab.
KU Football Game Excursion!! Get signed up for the High School Youth Group Trip to the KU football Game on Sept 11 @ 11am. We will meet in the parking lot pre-game (at around 9am) to grill some sausage and eggs and eat some bagels for pre-game festivities!! Permission forms can be found online; turn them in to Jen by Sept 1.
Ski Trip FUNDRAISERS: Football Parking @ St. John Help work the football parking (we’ll be selling out half of our lots) to raise money for our ski trip to Colorado. We will be selling parking spots on September 4, 11, and 25, so get signed up with Jen for one of these spots!! If you want to go on the ski trip, you MUST attend one football parking session to help out. Email her at jmeitl@saint-johns.net to reserve your preferred spot today!!

Wild Workday Wednesdays!! ** Wild Workday Wednesdays will start up again full swing on August 18!! Come meet in 202 W 13th street (one of the Atrium houses) for fun projects and service opportunities. We meet starting at 2:00pm; pick-up this year will be 3:30pm from the same location unless otherwise noted. **Please note that Wednesday afternoons DO NOT subsidize as religious education for 7th and 8th grade students. On Wed afternoons, we will only offer service opportunities for students to serve their communities through various projects; these afternoons
Religious Education/Youth Group Update: KICK-OFF September 15 Exciting news!! Religious Education for 7-8th grade students at St. John (traditionally occurring on Sunday mornings) will now be combined with a more traditional “youth group” style of meeting, and will be held on Wednesday nights from 7:30-9:00pm. All 7-8th grade students at St. John are invited to attend each week for fun-filled games, hilarious skits, and lots of fellowship while learning about the deep tradition that is our faith!! These Wednesday evenings will include 7th grade catechesis as well as the 8th grade confirmation prep process.
CONFIRMATION RETREAT: Eighth grade students mark your calendars!! All confirmation students will be required to attend the confirmation retreat that takes place from Fri, Oct 8 @ 5pm thru Sun, Oct 10 @ noon. No exceptions to this rule; please do your best to clear your calendars so as to be able to attend this awesome retreat out at Prairie Star Ranch!! |
